JOURNY Originals: A New Era of Travel Storytelling

By Travel Magazine Editors Oct 17, 2025

Travel isn't just about seeing new places anymore—it's about experiencing them through stories that move you. And that's exactly what JOURNY, the streaming platform under NextTrip, is banking on with its bold new slate of original series.

Since NextTrip acquired JOURNY earlier this year, the platform has quietly undergone a transformation. With over 17 million monthly viewers now tuning in, JOURNY isn't content being just another destination for travel programming. It wants to be the storyteller—the one creating narratives that make you want to abandon your couch and book a flight.

Six Series. Infinite Possibilities.

The first wave includes six original shows, each tackling travel through a different lens: cuisine, culture, wellness, and sustainability. Here's what's coming:

TIDE, starring celebrated chef Ben Robinson, sets sail first. Filmed aboard the elegant Sea Cloud Spirit, the series navigates the Caribbean with a focus on culinary artistry and the stories hidden in every port. Think food odyssey meets adventure—visually stunning and emotionally real.

Borderless Table (Lauren Camilleri) digs into Caribbean cuisine, exploring why certain recipes matter as much as how to prepare them. Origins of Dance (Kid David) traces movement as cultural identity, from ballet studios to hip-hop cypher. Eco Luxe (Adeola Ariyo) flips luxury travel on its head, showcasing high-end experiences built on sustainability—from the Serengeti to the Maldives.

Then there's Beyond the Known (Marilia Moreno), which examines wellness as a global journey, and Whipped (Yann Horowitz), an explosion of color and flavor capturing Asia's culinary scene and creative energy.

What's Different Here

These aren't your typical glossy travel specials. They're not slick, staged narratives either. What sets JOURNY Originals apart is authenticity wrapped in premium production—the kind of storytelling that inspires action, not just daydreaming.

"Cinematic travel storytelling that celebrates diversity and perspective," as Stephen Friedman, Head of Channel for JOURNY, describes it. Each series is helmed by creators who genuinely live the worlds they explore, giving the work a grounded, lived-in quality.

From Screen to Suitcase

Here's where it gets interesting: JOURNY is part of NextTrip's ecosystem that spans media, commerce, and technology. That means the story doesn't end when the credits roll. A viewer watching TIDE could book passage on a similar sailing. Someone inspired by Eco Luxe could reserve a stay at one of the featured eco-lodges.

With expansion into Southeast Asia underway through a partnership with KC Global Media, JOURNY is positioning itself as more than just entertainment—it's a bridge between inspiration and experience.

Why Now?

For years, travel television occupied two distinct worlds: the polished escapism of network documentaries and the rapid-fire energy of digital creator vlogs. JOURNY Originals splits the difference, marrying premium cinematography with the authenticity of on-the-ground reporting. It feels overdue, and it feels ambitious.

As TIDE prepares to chart its course and more series move into production, one thing is clear: JOURNY understands that travel stories matter because they spark something real in us. They remind us that the world is worth exploring—and that the journey never really ends. It just finds new ways to begin.
